Article to Open First Furniture Stores in U.S.
Digital-first Article has announced plans to expand into the United States through the openings of new stores in San Francisco and the Seattle suburb of Bellevue, Wash., before the end of 2026.
The modern furniture retailer said the approximately 7,500- to 8,200-square-foot stores are scheduled to open in fall 2026 as part of a strategy to build on strong West Coast e-commerce performance and deepen relationships with existing customers. The locations will allow shoppers to browse furniture in person, order in-store and access free design services, while select décor and accent items will be available for immediate purchase.
The expansion follows the company’s first physical store opening in Vancouver in August 2024, which Article said exceeded expectations and contributed to 47% revenue growth in the local market in 2025. The company said the U.S. represents its largest customer base, with California and Washington consistently ranking among its top-performing states for online sales.
“We see physical retail as an extension of the business we built online and are approaching expansion with discipline,” said Aamir Baig, co-founder and CEO of Vancouver-based Article. “The West Coast has always been core to our business and represents roughly a quarter of total purchases. It’s where our company is headquartered and where we built early infrastructure to support customer demand. Expanding our retail footprint to California and Washington is a natural next step.”
The San Francisco store will be located in the city’s Design District to strengthen connections with trade professionals and design-focused consumers, while the Bellevue location in Lincoln Square will target a broader customer base. Both stores will feature curated room displays, swatch libraries and complimentary interior design services.
Article said the new locations form part of a broader North American growth strategy, with additional stores planned after the U.S. launch. The company expects to operate as many as five stores, including locations in Vancouver and Toronto, by early 2027.
Article previously announced plans to open a Toronto location by year-end 2026 and said that expansion into the U.S. would follow.
