BC Hydro Launches 22 EV Charging Hubs on Commercial Properties
BC Hydro has reached a major milestone in the expansion of its electric-vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, launching 22 new public fast-charging hubs on commercial properties across British Columbia.
This development has helped triple the size of its network in the past year, bringing the total to 591 charging ports across the province, said the electric utility
The new hubs include locations in Vancouver (Kerrisdale), Surrey (Panorama Place), Maple Ridge (Haney Place Mall), and Port Moody (Inlet Park), among others.
“B.C. is home to one of the fastest-growing EV communities in North America,” said Adrian Dix, minister of energy and climate solutions. “With more than 98% of BC Hydro’s electricity generated from renewable sources, EV drivers in B.C. are driving the charge toward lower greenhouse-gas emissions and a cleaner future.
“Together with BC Hydro and other partners, we have built one of Canada’s largest public EV-charging networks to help reduce range anxiety and encourage more British Columbians to make the switch to electric vehicles.”
BC Hydro’s newly released Driving Forward: BC Hydro’s EV Charging Progress Report says the recent rollout includes next-generation 350-kilowatt fast chargers.
“We are paving the way to a cleaner, more sustainable and convenient transportation future for British Columbians through investments in infrastructure, technology and partnerships,” said Chris O’Riley, Hydro’s president and CEO.
The provincially owned company plans to further expand its network to 800 ports by spring 2026 and will introduce its first 400-kilowatt chargers later this year. The 400-KW chargers are capable of providing 100 kilometres of range in just three minutes.
BC Hydro credited its EV-charging station growth to the support of customers and partners, including Natural Resources Canada, the Government of B.C., First Nations, municipalities, and the business community.
