Bell Expands Saskatchewan AI Hub To 1.2 GW, $52.5B
Bell Canada plans to quadruple its Sherwood AI data-centre development near Regina, adding up to 900 megawatts of capacity for a total of 1.2 gigawatts.
Announced during the Canada Investment Summit, the proposed expansion builds on Bell’s 300-MW campus already under construction on a 65-hectare site in the Rural Municipality of Sherwood. Bell has not disclosed how much additional land or how many buildings the larger development would require.
Bell and Saskatchewan signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding covering the phased expansion. Construction depends on customer commitments, commercial agreements, permits, approvals and any required environmental assessments.
The new capacity would be supported by partner-developed natural-gas generation under Saskatchewan’s bring-your-own-power framework. The facilities would use closed-loop cooling systems requiring no municipal water.
Total capital investment could reach $52.5B, including data-centre infrastructure, tenant computing equipment and related power generation—not solely Bell’s spending on land and buildings.
“AI infrastructure is critical infrastructure,” Bell CEO Mirko Bibic said.
The expansion could support up to 1,200 construction, engineering and technical jobs and 600 permanent roles. Bell also plans to establish its AI Fabric national ecosystem head office in Saskatchewan.
The original Sherwood project is scheduled to begin opening in phases in 2027.
