CRE Industry Mourns Passing of Christine Bergeron
The commercial real estate industry is mourning the death of Christine Bergeron, president and CEO of Concert Properties.
Bergeron died Friday at the age of 51 after battling cancer. In a statement, Concert praised her for “facing cancer with strength and grace.”
Bergeron served as president and CEO of Concert from September 2023 to September 2025, when she took an extended leave to focus on her health and family. Since the leave was indefinite, Concert began a search for a new president and CEO at that time.
“Christine was a rare and exceptional leader, whose professional brilliance was matched by her depth of character and belief in people,” said John Dooling, Concert’s interim CEO, managing director and CFO. “She asked the hard questions, listened deeply and challenged us not to simply deliver results, but to do so in a way that honours our values.”
Concert said Bergeron guided the company “with purpose, confidence and passion through a pivotal period for the company,” and was known for building connections across the organization and industry while embedding sustainability, reconciliation, community impact and diversity, equity and inclusivity into corporate priorities.
Before joining Concert, Bergeron served as president and CEO of Vancity, Canada’s largest credit union. Over more than a decade, she held several senior leadership roles before being appointed CEO, leading the organization to record financial performance in 2020 and 2021 while deepening its social and environmental commitments.
Earlier in her career, she worked in sustainable finance and impact investing, joining cleantech venture firm Chrysalix Energy Ventures as a founding team member and later co-founding Shoreline West Asset Management.
Bergeron received numerous honours recognizing her leadership and sustainable business practices, including BC Business Woman of the Year, and Canada’s Clean16. She served on nearly 20 boards and advisory councils, most recently with the Vancouver Board of Trade and the Urban Development Institute, and previously chaired InBC and served on the UNEP Finance Initiative board.
“Christine’s passing has left a deep sense of loss across Concert Properties,” said Dooling. “She will be greatly missed by all of us who had the honour of knowing her.”
Bergeron leaves her husband Rich Holt, sons Everett and Theo; parents Ron and Marily; and siblings Lianne, Marc, Eric, Monique, and Michelle.
Her family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Christine Bergeron Women’s Entrepreneur Award through Vancity. A celebration of life is scheduled for March 1, 2026 at UBC’s Robert H. Lee Alumni Centre. To RSVP click here.
