Decathlon Plans to Close its Five Toronto-Area Stores
Global sporting goods retailer Decathlon has revealed plans to close all five of its Greater Toronto Area stores, according to multiple reports.
France-base Decathlon’s GTA stores are located in Brampton, Ont.; Burlington, Ont.; Markham, Ont., Scarborough, Ont., and Vaughan, Ont. (Burglington is a Hamilton suburb but within the outer limits of the GTA.)
The company has stated that it will keep its 15 other locations across Canada open.
“We will continue to stay agile and adapt our retail offerings to best serve Canadian sport enthusiasts,” Jérôme Morice, Decathlon Canada’s chief operation officer, said in a statement to The Toronto Star. “Decathlon Canada is committed to making sport more accessible to everyone no matter where they live, and this means exploring all avenues that meet our customers where they are and continuing to provide quality service.”
Decathlon operates in more than 60 countries and has about 1,700 stores across the globe. A Decathlon store at Toronto’s Union station shut its doors in April.
