First Nations Group Buys Elements Casino in Chilliwack

The Ts’elxwéyeqw Group has completed its acquisition of Elements Casino in Chilliwack, B.C., from Great Canadian Entertainment, transferring the Fraser Valley gaming property to First Nations ownership.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

The buyer is a consortium of communities from the Ts’elxwéyeqw Tribe operating through an entity affiliated with Ts’elxwéyeqw Tribe Management Ltd. The Ts’elxwéyeqw are the First People of the Chilliwack River watershed and one of the tribes of the Stóō.

The parties announced their definitive agreement in November 2025. At the time, Chief David Jimmie, chief of Squiala First Nation and president of Ts’elxwéyeqw Tribe Management Ltd., said revenue from the acquisition would strengthen the participating communities, create new opportunities and support a greater role for the Nations in the local economy.

Elements Casino Chilliwack opened in 2012 and features more than 300 slot machines, live and electronic table games, bingo, dining and live entertainment. The property generated $2.37 million in provincial gambling revenue for the City of Chilliwack during fiscal 2024-25, according to the British Columbia Lottery Corporation.

The transaction is part of a broad transfer of Great Canadian’s B.C. casino portfolio to First Nations-controlled businesses. Since mid-2024, the Apollo Global Management-owned company has reached agreements to sell eight B.C. operations, including properties in Nanaimo, Victoria, Maple Ridge, Coquitlam, Richmond, Vancouver, Surrey and Chilliwack.

Chances Dawson Creek is Great Canadian’s only remaining B.C. casino without a publicly announced buyer. The company has not said whether the sales constitute a planned departure from the province or a strategy to concentrate investment in Ontario, where it has developed major properties including the approximately $1-billion Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto.
