Gilgan Gives St. Joseph Health Centre Project $60M Boost

The St. Joseph Health Centre expansion project in Toronto has received a major financial boost from a leading real estate developer and philanthropist.

Mattamy Homes Founder and CEO Peter Gilgan has made a record $60-million contribution to the project through the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation.

The funds will be used to fund a new patient tower at the hospital in Gilgan’s name. Gilgan was born in St. Joseph’s and has previously contributed millions of dollars to the foundation.

“This gift is deeply personal,” said Gilgan. “West Toronto is close to my heart. I’m proud to support this transformation so St. Joe’s can continue caring for families like mine for the next century.”

The purpose-built development is designed to meet the West End’s growing and changing needs and also improve the hospital’s emergency and surgical care.

Construction is slated to start in 2028.
