Groupe Mach has acquired Maison Alcan, the landmark office and heritage complex in downtown Montreal, from Lune Rouge, the organization founded by Cirque du Soleil co-founder Guy Laliberté.

Anne Dongois, executive vice-president of Lune Rouge, confirmed the sale to Connect, saying it took effect Monday, Aug. 3, 2026.

The purchase price was not disclosed.

Located at 1188 Sherbrooke St. W. in Montreal’s Golden Square Mile, Maison Alcan spans approximately 270,000 square feet. The acquisition includes five historic buildings, the Davis Building and a signature glass-roofed atrium.

The 43-year-old complex incorporates buildings constructed between 1872 and 1928. Its oldest component, Holland House, dates back 154 years.

The Alcan aluminum company established the complex as its global headquarters in 1983 and remained there for more than three decades before relocating its Montreal operations in 2015.

Designed by Montreal architecture firm Arcop, Maison Alcan was considered a pioneering example of adaptive reuse. The project preserved the Lord-Atholstan, Béique, Holland and Klinkhoff houses and the former Berkeley Hotel, connecting them to the new Davis Building.

Its development followed the controversial 1973 demolition of the nearby Van Horne Mansion and helped mark a shift in Montreal toward integrating historic properties into new commercial developments.

Lune Rouge acquired Maison Alcan in 2015 and subsequently undertook an extensive restoration and redevelopment of the property as a mixed-use creative and business campus.

“We acquired Maison Alcan in 2015 with the vision of transforming it into an eclectic, inspiring and accessible destination for all,” Dongois told Connect. “Over the years, we fully restored and redeveloped this iconic heritage complex to welcome businesses and startups while creating vibrant spaces for collaboration, exchange and connection.”

The complex’s occupants include Lune Rouge, startup incubator Zú and video game developer EA Motive. The property also contains office, restaurant, café and event space.

Dongois said the transaction is part of Lune Rouge’s broader strategic vision and marks a new chapter for Maison Alcan.

“We are pleased to pass the torch to Groupe Mach, which we are confident will continue to enhance this remarkable heritage property and build on the momentum we have created,” she said.

Maison Alcan was classified as a Quebec heritage property in 2017, placing restrictions on alterations to protected portions of the buildings and site.

The acquisition adds another prominent property to Groupe Mach’s portfolio, which includes the Jules Dallaire complex in Quebec City, 160 Elgin in Ottawa and Atria in Toronto.
