H55 Opens New E-Plane Battery Plant in Longueuil
H55 has opened its first Canadian and North American production site and engineering offices in the Montreal suburb of Longueuil, Que., marking a significant step in the Swiss company’s expansion.
The facility, located within the city’s aerospace innovation zone, will manufacture electric airplane-battery packs, with customer deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027.
“H55’s new facilities in Longueuil will play a key role in advancing sustainable aviation solutions for the North American market,” said Martin Larose, CEO of H55. “This strategic site will host battery production, product development, and integration support for our Canadian customers, becoming a true driver of innovation for the industry.”
The new plant will support H55’s growing list of clients, including CAE, Pratt & Whitney Canada and Harbour Air, while also fulfilling orders for the Bristell B23 Energic platform. Certification of the company’s 100-kilowatt electric propulsion system is expected soon, with initial deliveries slated for 2026.
The Longueuil site also establishes H55’s Canadian subsidiary at Saint-Hubert Airport, positioning the company to serve the North American market and advance sustainable aviation.
The Quebec government invested $10 million in the project. The federal government invested $10,000 in 2023, but it is not known whether Ottawa provided additional funds.
The city also provided an unspecified amount of funding.
