IKEA Breaks Ground on New 483K-SF Distribution Centre in Hamilton
IKEA Canada has broken ground on a new 438,285-square-foot Customer Distribution Centre (CDC) in Hamilton.
Located at 212 Glover Road, the Hamilton CDC will be among Ontario’s five largest zero-carbon industrial buildings once certified, said the company. The Hamilton location will serve as a key component of the retailer’s $400-million investment to enhance its omnichannel retail experience.
The company’s customer distribution centres typically provide fulfillment services for IKEA stores in their regions. The Hamilton facility will feature a collection point for customers to pick up their online orders, though no products or food will be available for immediate purchase and takeaway.
“This expansion is a testament to our commitment to becoming more accessible, affordable, and sustainable for our customers,” said Selwyn Crittendon, CEO and chief sustainability officer at IKEA Canada.
The facility is designed for Net Zero Carbon national certification and LEED Gold certification. It will contribute to IKEA’s goal of halving emissions across its entire value chain by 2030 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. The company also plans for more than 90% of home deliveries to be completed using zero-emission vehicles by 2028.
The facility is expected to open in the summer of 2027. The company said the project will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs in warehousing, delivery, and design services.
