KPU Surrey to Get First On-Campus Student Residence
Kwantlen Polytechnic University has unveiled plans to build its first on-campus student residence at its Surrey, B.C., site.
The eight-storey building will accommodate 350 beds and a 160-seat dining hall open seven days per week. Students will have the option of renting single- and double-occupancy rooms and four-bedroom apartment-style units. The project will also feature common and multi-faith rooms, along with laundry facilities, housing services, bicycle-storage and repair facilities, and security, said KPU.
Construction is expected to cost $144 million, with the B.C. government investing $119 million and KPU providing $25 million generated from the sale of land for the future Surrey Hospital and BC Cancer Centre.
“Adding on-campus housing is vital for supporting our students and the long-term future of Kwantlen Polytechnic University,” said Bruce Choy, KPU’s president and vice-chancellor. “Housing will give options for future students, helping them focus on their studies while fostering a closer sense of community.
KPU currently does not operate any student residences, with students relying on off-campus rentals from Global Education Communities, home-sharing through SpacesShared and other options.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2027.
