Long & McQuade to Take Over Cosmo Music Store Property

After 57 years in business in Richmond Hill, Ont., Cosmo Music, Canada’s largest music store, is set to close its doors.

Long & McQuade, a national leader in music retail, will take over the store property, Cosmo announced.

Cosmo, known for its expansive selection of musical instruments and lessons, cited post-pandemic challenges as a key factor in the decision to shut down. Beginning as Cosmo Guitars in 1966, the company grew into a leading destination for musicians, eventually consolidating into a massive superstore in 2008.

“We are deeply grateful to our dedicated team, loyal customers, brand partners, and the music community that has supported us throughout these incredible years,” the Hebert family, owners of Cosmo Music, said in a statement. “It’s been a privilege to serve as a hub for musicians and music lovers alike.”

Located at 10 Via Renzo Drive, the store will remain open for a limited time, with a closing date to be determined. The company plans to hold a final sale, offering discounted prices on gear, while refunds for outstanding orders will be processed.

“Cosmo Music has always been more than just a store,” the Hebert family added. “It has been a space where musicians found inspiration, created connections, and shared their passion. We’re proud of what we’ve built over the decades and will always cherish the memories made with our community.”

Further details on the property’s transition will be announced in the coming weeks.
