Lyft Opens 90K SF Toronto Tech Hub At First Canadian Place
Lyft has opened its new 90K SF office at First Canadian Place, bringing one of downtown Toronto’s larger net-new technology leases of 2025 into operation.
The ride-hailing company officially opened the hub Sept. 16 at 100 King St. W. Avison Young represented Lyft on the lease, which gives the company a significantly larger Toronto base and makes the city its second-largest technology hub in North America after San Francisco.
Lyft says the hub will create more than 500 jobs across engineering, product development, marketing and artificial intelligence.
Rachel Goldstein, Lyft’s vice-president of real estate, operations and supply chain, called the opening “years in the making.”
She said Lyft’s real estate team handled “identifying the space and structuring the deal,” with development, workplace operations, security and supply-chain teams carrying the project through design, construction and opening.
The completed office includes a library for focused work, collaboration areas, a sports bar honouring Toronto teams and a world map at reception.
Lyft’s move also comes as conditions tighten at the top end of Toronto’s office market. Downtown trophy-office vacancy fell to 2.6% in the second quarter, according to CBRE, while overall downtown vacancy declined for a fourth consecutive quarter.
The move represents a substantial step up from Lyft’s first Toronto office, which opened in 2024 in a coworking space. At the time, CEO David Risher said the Toronto team had about 80 employees, most of them in engineering.
