New Food World Plus Grocery Store Coming to Mississauga

A new 176,339-square-foot Food West Plus multicultural grocery and retail destination is preparing to open in Mississauga, Ont.

The development site is located at 50 Matheson Blvd. E. The project’s developer JDas says the outlet will transforn one of the Greater Toronto Area’s largest retail spaces into what its developer JDass describes as a first-of-its-kind shopping experience.

The upcoming new store will occupy an approximately 13.9-acre site at the corner of Hurontario Street and Matheson Boulevard and is being positioned as one of the largest multicultural grocery stores in the GTA.

The store will feature groceries and products representing communities from across Canada and around the world, including Caribbean, Eastern European, Middle Eastern, South Asian and East Asian cultures. Plans also include halal and kosher butcher counters, an expanded organic produce offering, fresh seafood, meat and deli departments, wholesale and catering operations, and a variety of prepared food concepts.

Additional features will include fresh juice and sushi bars, a dessert parlour, a live food section, a café, a fresh flower boutique, an outdoor patio and what the company says will be a candy aisle spanning 1,000 feet.

“Food World Plus is a global experience built for every culture, every family, and every community that calls Mississauga home,” said Preet Dass, the retailer’s CEO. “We set out to build a destination where people feel seen, represented, and at home, where the ingredients you grew up with are finally within reach. This is the result of years of listening to this community, and we cannot wait for Mississauga to make it its own.”

The property will front four streets, include approximately 1,100 parking spaces and will be about a 15-minute walk from the future Britannia stop on the Hazel McCallion LRT line.

The company said the project will also create local employment opportunities across a range of store positions. No official opening date was announced.

Food World Plus is a Canadian-owned multicultural supermarket brand operated by JDass, a family-owned company that has operated in Ontario since 1986.
