New Moxy Hotel Opens in Downtown Ottawa

RIMAP Hospitality Services has expanded further in downtown Ottawa through the opening of a new Moxy hotel.

The 223-room Moxy Ottawa Downtown occupies the first five storeys of the project at 126 York Street, which is also planned to include 343 rental apartments under the Major Apartments name. The residential units have not yet been released, a RIMAP spokesperson told Connect.

“Moxy Ottawa Downtown is designed to be more than a place to stay—it’s a social hub, a nightlife destination, and a gathering place for travellers and locals alike,” RIMAP president Marc Varadi said in a statement.

The development extends between York and George streets and incorporates the retained façade of the heritage-designated Major Building, a former warehouse built in 1913. The property housed Shopify’s former headquarters before the technology company relocated to 150 Elgin Street in 2014.

The 22-storey mixed-use development also includes three levels of underground parking, shared amenity areas and restaurant, bar and lounge space.

The hotel contains an indoor pool, fitness centre, co-working and meeting areas, and a ground-floor Moxy Bar. It operates under Marriott International’s Moxy Hotels brand.

The opening is part of a broader Ottawa expansion by Montreal-based RIMAP, which has developed several projects combining hotels and purpose-built rental housing.

RIMAP opened the AC Hotel by Marriott Ottawa Downtown and the adjoining MRKT Lofts in 2025. The company is also developing a Renaissance hotel and OROS Apartments project at 400 Albert Street, with completion planned for 2027.

RIMAP previously said its three Ottawa mixed-use projects represent more than $500 million in investment and are expected to create approximately 600 jobs.
