Shaan Dhaliwal has joined National Bank of Canada as director of commercial real estate finance in Toronto. Dhaliwal previously worked in business development at MarshallZehr Group.
BTB Real Estate Investment Trust promoted Marc-André Lefebvre to executive vice-president, chief financial officer and chief operating officer, expanding his responsibilities to include operations. Lefebvre joined BTB as vice-president and CFO in 2024.
SmartStop Self Storage REIT closed a $200-million Canadian bond offering Aug. 18, using most of the proceeds to repay debt and substantially complete the refinancing of its 2026 maturities. The offering was SmartStop’s third in the Canadian bond market.
CPP Investments has seen several senior employees depart from its investment-risk, credit, real-assets and sustainable-energies operations in recent weeks. The pension manager characterized the changes as a mix of voluntary and involuntary departures consistent with its usual retention and efficiency decisions.
Mahmud Rahman has joined CDNGLOBAL as president of its newly launched retail division. Rahman brings about 20 years of experience in retail leasing and landlord and tenant representation.

Diane Brisebois has been appointed acting chief executive officer of the Ontario Real Estate Association while interim CEO Cathy Polan remains on leave. Brisebois previously spent more than 30 years leading the Retail Council of Canada.
Red Apple Stores celebrated four store openings Aug. 14, including the conversion of a Bargain Shop in Esterhazy, Sask., and renovated locations in Revelstoke, B.C., Blind River, Ont., and Fort Nelson, B.C.
The Yellowknife Post Office Building has been listed for sale for $2.75 million through Coldwell Banker Northern Bestsellers. The downtown property remains occupied by Canada Post and is designated as a City of Yellowknife heritage site.
Alain Dufort officially began work as Montréal’s city manager Aug. 17. Dufort, who has more than 35 years of municipal and public-service experience, previously served as director general of the Réseau de transport de Longueuil.
Brookfield and La Caisse has completed their acquisition of Boralex, paying $37.25 per share in a transaction with an enterprise value of about $9 billion. Boralex will operate independently under its new ownership, and its shares were expected to be delisted from the Toronto Stock Exchange.
