CBRE Canada appointed Nicholas Foster vice-president and senior sales director of its Toronto downtown office. Foster brings more than 23 years of experience and will help brokers and clients use data and market insights to identify opportunities across commercial property classes.

Construction has started on a 10-storey mass-timber rental building at 1113–1125 Dundas St. W. in Toronto. Led by CreateTO under the city’s public developer model, the project will contain 74 rent-controlled homes, including 17 affordable units, on a former municipal parking lot.

Firm Capital hired Laura Cruz as co-head of residential lending. Cruz brings more than a decade of experience in mortgage underwriting, lending and business development and will work to expand the company’s residential lending platform and broker relationships.

CBRE Capital promoted Jessica Harland to executive vice-president in Calgary. Harland specializes in commercial real estate financing, including conventional and CMHC-insured loans across multiple property classes.

Frontenac Mortgage Investment reported that its portfolio being wound down contained 26 remaining loans with approximately $45.4 million of principal outstanding as of July 31. Four residential-development loans totalling $15.8 million are connected to properties in a court-appointed receivership and are expected to generate losses.

Teranet appointed Sam Ishak chief information officer. Ishak, who previously spent more than 20 years at title insurer FCT, will oversee the property-data company’s technology strategy, enterprise architecture, application development, information security and business intelligence.

Chelsea Boote joined Avison Young as proposal manager for Canada. Boote brings experience spanning real estate sales, commercial lending and business development.

Cumberland Municipal Council passed first reading of a land-use bylaw amendment that would temporarily stop the Nova Scotia municipality from accepting AI data-centre development applications. A public hearing is expected in September as the municipality continues its broader planning and land-use review.

Margaux REIT appointed Faycal Salek as a trustee and member of its audit committee, effective immediately. Margaux is a publicly traded Quebec REIT focused on acquiring and operating self-storage properties.

TD Bank plans to open 100 U.S. branches by the end of 2028 as it reinvests in its retail network from Maine to Florida. The openings remain subject to regulatory approval and the availability of suitable real estate, with most expected to occur in 2028.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada announced that Industra Construction had received a contract valued at more than $7.5 million to build a Pacific salmon conservation hatchery near Hanceville, B.C. The approximately 2,700-square-foot facility will include office, laboratory and fish-culture space, outdoor rearing tanks and water-treatment infrastructure.
