Purdys Considers Factory Relocation From 2.4-Acre Vancouver Site

A 2.4-acre factory property on Kingsway in East Vancouver could eventually come into play as Purdys Chocolatier considers how and where to modernize its manufacturing operations.

Purdys has not announced a move from 2777 Kingsway, but a recent job posting indicates the review has moved beyond a general exploration. The company is seeking a project manager, operations relocation, reporting to CEO Scott McTavish, to lead the planning and execution of moving its manufacturing operations to a new facility.

The posting describes the work as “one of the most significant transformation projects in Purdys’ history.”

“Purdys Chocolatier regularly evaluates investments in its business to ensure we are well positioned for the future,” McTavish told Connect. “As part of that process, we are exploring opportunities to modernize our manufacturing capabilities to support innovation, efficiency, and long-term growth.”

The Kingsway location has housed Purdys’ 57,000-square-foot chocolate factory since 1982.

The building sits on a 2.4-acre site in Vancouver’s Renfrew-Collingwood neighbourhood, a sizeable consolidated parcel along one of the city’s major urban corridors.

The property’s 2026 BC Assessment valuation, based on market values as of July 1, 2025, is about $41 million, including $40.84 million for the land and $122,000 for improvements.

The City of Vancouver has also contemplated the site’s eventual redevelopment for years. Its Norquay Village planning framework identifies 2777 Kingsway as a site where a public plaza would be delivered through redevelopment and has contemplated development of up to 14 storeys.

The potential manufacturing investment comes as Purdys expands its national reach. Founded in Vancouver in 1907, the family-owned chocolatier operates more than 80 shops across Canada.

Purdys is preparing to enter the Maritimes on Sept. 4 with four locations across Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. In 2025, the company also entered grocery stores for the first time through a limited-time rollout at 131 Save-On-Foods locations across Western Canada and Yukon.

Purdys has not disclosed a potential new manufacturing location, development plans for Kingsway or a timeline for any move.
