Stellantis Reportedly Considers Sale Of 269-Acre Brampton Site
Stellantis is considering selling its Brampton assembly plant and intends to discuss a potential transaction with another company, according to Unifor.
The automaker informed the union of its plans on Aug. 12, Unifor said in a public statement. Stellantis has not issued formal written notice of a closure or sale, which requires at least one year’s notice under its collective agreement.
“We are preparing to enter the collective bargaining process and have nothing to announce at this time,” LouAnn Gosselin, head of Canada communications at Stellantis, told Connect. “Our focus remains on finding a sustainable manufacturing solution for Brampton Assembly.”
The property at 2000 Williams Parkway E. spans approximately 269 acres and contains about 2.95 million square feet of manufacturing space, according to Stellantis.
The plant has been idle since December 2023. Stellantis paused work to retool it for Jeep Compass production in February 2025 and later moved the vehicle program to the United States.
More than 2,200 Unifor Local 1285 members remain on layoff.
Any transaction or redevelopment could face planning constraints. Brampton city council voted in February to pursue official plan and zoning protections designating the property for automotive assembly and related manufacturing.
Those protections could restrict logistics, residential or mixed-use redevelopment unless council approves a change. The site’s scale, heavy-industrial infrastructure and proximity to Highway 410 make it a rare Greater Toronto Area industrial asset.
