Thouin Helped Establish Building Ontario Fund

(Connect has handed out its third-annual Canadian Women in Real Estate Awards. This story profiles Building Ontario Fund’s Alena Thouin.)

By Amy Wolff Sorter

Alena Thouin is a seasoned executive with over 20 years of progressive leadership experience in financial services, strategy, operations, and public finance, spanning both the public and private sectors. She has a strong track record of building high-performing teams, leading complex initiatives, and driving organizational transformation.

In her role as Chief Strategy & Operations Officer, Thouin helped establish the Building Ontario Fund and was part of the initial executive team, which has already financed several seniors’ and long-term care projects across the province, with more in the pipeline.

Prior to joining BOF, Thouin served as Chief Operating Officer at the Ontario Financing Authority (OFA), where she provided executive oversight for corporate affairs, strategic project financing, information technology, and risk management of the provincial borrowing program. As Executive Lead of the Building Ontario Fund Secretariat at the OFA, she also played a foundational role in shaping the vision and operational framework of BOF.

She is a member of the Law Society of Ontario. Thouin actively supports initiatives focused on housing, social services, and gender equality.

These are just some of the reasons why Connect Canada CRE honoured Alena Thouin with a 2025 Canadian Women in Real Estate Award. The awards celebrate the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected leadership positions and taken on mentorship roles.
