Toronto’s Proposed Lesso Mall to Become Industrial Site Instead: Report

If all goes according to plan, a previously proposed mall in Toronto’s Scarborough district will become a warehouse and distribution centre instead, Daily Hive Urbanized reported.

The Lesso mall planned on Toronto’s northeastern fringe has been scrapped after the site was purchased by Canadian billionaire Jim Pattison, according to the publication.

Now, the Jim Pattison Group is proposing to build a one-storey industrial facility on the site located at 5855-5955 Steeles Avenue. Daily Hive Urbanized reported that a revised development plan for the site has been filed with the City of Toronto.

The proposed industrial property is slated to comprise 384,831 square feet, according to Daily Hive Urbanized.

China Lesso Group Holdings, through subsidiary Lesso Mall Canada, was the previously known owner of the site. The Vancouver-based Pattison Group purchased the property in 2023, Daily Hive Urbanized reported.

Jim Pattison, 95, ranks among Canada’s wealthiest entrepreneurs. He owns companies and real estate assets that span diverse industry sectors ranging from automobile dealerships to grocery stores.
