Trudel Breaks Ground on Galeries Charlesbourg Project
Trudel has broken ground on its approximately $1-billion redevelopment of the Galeries Charlesbourg shopping centre in Quebec City, Le Journal de Québec reported.
The redevelopment effort is the company’s second major project in the Quebec City region.
The large-scale, mixed-use initiative is slated for completion by 2033.
Located on more than 1 million square feet of land near the Félix Leclerc highway between 1st and 4th Avenues, the project responds to the region’s housing crisis, according to Trudel. It is slated to include 2,000 rental condos—300 of which will be designated as affordable or social housing—and several units adapted for people living with disabilities, Le Journal reported.
“Just as we did for Fleur de Lys, we developed this project in close collaboration with the residents and stakeholders of the neighbourhood,” William Trudel, the company’s president, told Le Journal.
The eight-year redevelopment plan also includes 300,000 sf of commercial space, a 150-room hotel, restaurant chains, and extensive green spaces, Le Journal reported.
