Turn Group to Develop 600K-SF Ottawa Mixed-Use Project
Turn Group will develop a 600,000-square-foot mixed-use use project in Otttawa’s west end after purchasing a former parking lot.
Turn recently completed the purchase of the roughly three-acre site at 299 Carling Avenue for a reported price of $21 million from the federally owned Canada Lands Company. The proposed development is slated to comprise 750 multi-residential units across four towers standing 13 to 30 storeys, along with retail and office space.
“Perfectly positioned along the shores of Dow’s Lake, walking distance to Little Italy, the new hospital, transit, parks, and a rapidly growing corridor, 299 Carling is poised to become a standout destination and a major step forward in shaping Ottawa’s future,” said Ash Mahmoud, CEO, of Turn.
The proposed project is dedicated to inclusive housing and designed to serve a diverse mix of residents, he added.
Arcadis, a leading global architecture, engineering and consultancy firm, has been appointed as the project’s lead architect and consultant.
The development site is located withing a short walk of the O-Train LRT and across the street from Dow’s Lake, the central business district, and the neighbourhood’s vibrant cultural and culinary amenities, said Arcadis.
“Our design will draw inspiration from Ottawa’s natural and cultural landscape,” said Jan Steingahs, living practice group manager, at Arcadis. “Once complete, this project will contribute to a mixed-use neighbourhood that is both cohesive and community-focused. This development honours the city’s heritage while introducing vibrant, connected spaces where people can live, work, and gather.”
Arcadis will serve as the lead architect and consultant on the development and oversee all design deliverables, including architecture, interior design, building information-modelling services, landscape architecture and civil, traffic, and planning services to the project..
The company said the towers’ design, inspired by the organic curves or Dow’s Lake, will reflect Ottawa’s distinctive harmony between natural landscapes and urban living. The architecture features living facades, green roofs, and natural materials while paying homage to the city’s agrarian roots while embedding greenery throughout the built environment, Arcadis added.
Other features include large windows, terraced balconies, and pedestrian-friendly pathways that will foster sweeping lake views, private outdoor spaces, and a strong sense of community.
