Upstart Article to Open New Furniture Store in Toronto
Digital-first furniture retailer Article will open its first Toronto store later this year as it expands its brick-and-mortar presence beyond e-commerce.
The Vancouver-based retailer announced plans for a 9,600-square-foot showroom at 90 Bathurst Street in the King West neighbourhood, inside the West House mixed-use development featuring luxury rental residences. The store, expected to open in late 2026, will be the company’s second physical location and its largest to date.
Article’s retail format allows customers to browse curated furniture displays in person while placing orders in-store, with select décor and accent items available for immediate purchase. The Toronto location will also offer free onsite design services, an extensive swatch library and a dedicated children’s area designed to make shopping easier for families.
The store builds on the success of Article’s first retail outlet in Vancouver, which opened in August 2024 and has delivered in-store average order values more than 20% higher than online purchases, said the company.
“For more than a decade, Article succeeded through a digital-first model, meeting consumer demand for modern furniture online,” said Aamir Baig, co-founder and CEO of Article. “Over the past 18 months, we’ve seen how physical retail can deepen customer connections and strengthen our presence in key markets. As we expand, we’ll focus on store locations in North American cities where e-commerce performance is already strong, using retail to build on that momentum and make it easier to experience Article in person.”
Toronto is among Article’s strongest e-commerce markets in North America. The planned store is part of a broader retail strategy that could see the company open as many as five locations by early 2027, with entry into the U.S. market expected to follow.
