Why I Joined Connect And Why Real Estate Matters
Most people experience commercial real estate long before they call it that. In my first few weeks at Connect, I have seen how much of Canada’s economy and daily life runs through it.
The industry shapes where businesses set up, how goods reach customers, where housing gets built and what neighbourhoods become. A decision about one site can affect jobs, traffic, shopping and land values across an entire downtown block or rural concession.
My first takeaway? The story rarely ends at the property line.
I’ve joined Connect CRE as Director of Content and Events for Canada after 20 years in Canadian journalism. Over that time, I helped guide the coverage and conversation around some of the country’s most consequential stories, led teams and built digital audiences.
I am based in Toronto, but the job is national. I will lead Connect’s coverage of the investments, developments and decisions shaping markets across the country.
The timing matters. Trade tensions are changing business plans. Companies are reconsidering how they use their workplaces. Governments are trying to clear the barriers to new housing, but Canada still needs more homes. Construction costs, financing and technology are determining which projects move ahead.
It is not a simple moment, but it is an important one to understand. Canada is becoming more confident, more independent and more determined to build what our future requires.
Connect will be there. Every day, we deliver concise, useful commercial real estate news. At events across Canada, we bring decision-makers together, creating the connections that turn ideas into real places.
And a lot of it revolves around hearing from you. Tell us about the deals getting done, the projects moving ahead, the successes worth recognizing and what is changing in the market.
