Mattamy Purchases 153-Acre Land Parcel in Southeast Calgary

Mattamy Homes has acquired a 153-acre land parcel in southeast Calgary with plans to develop a future residential community there.

The acquisition gives the homebuilder a presence in all four quadrants of the city, providing an opportunity for the company to develop its first community in the southeast.

The land is located in the emerging Belvedere area between 17th Avenue SE, the Trans-Canada Highway and Chestermere, Alta.

“Belvedere represents an exciting next chapter for Mattamy in Alberta,” said Collin Campbell, president of Mattamy’s Alberta division. “Our commitment has always been to create vibrant communities where families can truly thrive, and this new community, easily accessible from neighbourhood amenities and roadways, will allow us to bring the Mattamy difference to even more Calgarians.”

The planned community, which has not yet been named, will include a mix of single-family homes, semi-detached homes and townhomes. Plans also call for more than 13 acres of parks, trails, a storm pond and open space.

“This land deal strengthens our long-term position in an important growth area for Calgary as our first community in southeast Calgary,” said Joe Case, vice-president of land development for Mattamy’s Alberta Division. “We are pleased to secure a site that allows for a complete and diverse community, and we look forward to advancing planning and development in the coming years.”

The development will be located near East Hills Shopping Centre and major transportation routes including Stoney Trail, 17th Avenue S.E. and the Trans-Canada Highway. Downtown Calgary is approximately a 15-minute drive from the site.

Mattamy expects grading and servicing work to begin in 2028, with the first residents anticipated to move into the community in early 2030. Full buildout is expected to take about seven years, with completion targeted for 2037.

The acquired land is just west of a Chestermere, where Mattamy and Truman plan to build a new 253-acre master-planned community.

Calgary-based Mattamy is North America’s largest family-owned homebuilder. Founded more than 48 years ago, the company helps more than 8,000 families achieve homeownership each year and operates in communities across Canada and 11 U.S. markets.
