McEwan to Open New Supermarket at Toronto’s Bayview Village
McEwan Fine Foods will open a new grocery store at Bayview Village mall, giving the chain three locations in the Greater Toronto Area.
In a LinkedIn post, Mark McEwan, president and CEO of the McEwan Group, the chain’s parent, said the new outlet will open at the shopping centre located in Toronto’s North York neighbourhood in 2027.
The new supermarket will occupy more than 9,000 square feet and will feature chef-prepared meals, produce, meat, seafood, bakery, deli and cheese, floral and gift offerings. It will also introduce several new concepts, including a made-to-order sandwich and salad counter, an expanded international hot table and a dedicated Omakase-to-Go counter.
“Opening at Bayview Village represents an exciting opportunity to connect with a community that values quality, craftsmanship and exceptional experiences,” said Mark McEwan. “Whether customers are stopping in for everyday essentials, a chef-prepared meal, or ingredients for a special occasion, we look forward to becoming a trusted destination for gourmet food and bringing the McEwan experience to even more Toronto shoppers.”
The Bayview Village store will build on McEwan Fine Foods’ flagship location at Shops at Don Mills and its urban express concept at TD Centre, said the company.
The opening coincides with a major transformation of Bayview Village. Interior renovations are expected to be completed later this year as part of QuadReal Property Group’s 22-acre master-planned redevelopment, which will combine retail, dining, residential and public spaces. McEwan Fine Foods will serve as a premium grocery anchor for the evolving mixed-use destination.
“At Bayview Village, we are continually enhancing the customer experience by introducing exceptional brands and sought-after concepts that further enrich our centre’s unique retail offering,” said Carrie DeVries, senior vice president of leasing-retail experience at QuadReal Property Group, the mall’s property manager, in a statement quoted by Grocery Business.
“We are thrilled to welcome McEwan Fine Foods and introduce our community to one of Canada’s most celebrated culinary brands, renowned for its exceptional gourmet grocery offerings and memorable culinary creations.”
According to a published report, the new McEwan’s store will occupy the space vacated by the closure of the Pusateri’s Fine Foods grocery store in 2024. Pusateri’s now operates one flagship store on Avenue Road in Toronto after closing the company’s other locations due to financial difficulties that led to bankruptcy and restructuring proceedings.
Led by Mark McEwan, who is a chef, the MacEwan Group ranks among Canada’s premier hospitality companies, according to the firm. The company’s portfolio includes fine-dining restaurants, gourmet grocery stores and a catering service.
