Westmont Hospitality to Acquire Famed Hotel Montebello

Westmont Hospitality has agreed to purchase the iconic Fairmont Le Château Montebello through a court-supervised process, according to a published report.

TourismExpress reported that Westmont has agreed to buy the hotel for an undisclosed price as part of a receivership sale. Colliers is acting as exclusive advisor to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), which was appointed receiver of Millennium Golden Jiachen Hotel Holdings and 4345118 Canada, and launched a sale and investment-solicitation process (SISP) for the property.

The iconic 210-room resort-style hotel is recognized as the largest log structure in the world by the International Log Builders Association and the Historic Hotels of America. The venue has hosted G7 and NATO leader summits, along with prime ministers, presidents, movie stars and even royalty, according to The Globe and Mail.

Mississauga, Ont.-based Westmont manages more than 500 hotels under major brands including Hilton, Marriott, Fairmont and Hyatt in about a dozen countries. Its repoIn Canada, its reported Canadian holdings include the Fairmont Waterfront in Vancouver.

The reported sale follows the rejection of a competing bid from a consortium of local investors led by Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer. His company, the Andlauer Group, announced last week that its proposal had not been accepted by PwC.

Millennium Golden Jiachen Hotel Holdings, owner of Hotel Montebello, is operating under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act after accumulating debts it could no longer service. The Superior Court of Quebec (Commercial Division) previously authorized PwC to borrow up to $36 million from Caisse Desjardins de Brossard to keep the business operating, a February court document shows. Desjardins pushed Jiachen Hotel Holdings into receivership in late 2025. PwC previously estimated the company’s outstanding debt at more than $64 million.

Jiachen Hotel Holdings was part of Chinese property-investment Evergrande, which collapsed due to unmanageable global debts. The collapse has been described as one of the world’s large corporate-debt and liquidation crises.

A November 2025 valuation placed the property’s assets at $47.6 million, including $34 million for the hotel.

The offering included the operating hotel, an 18-hole golf course designed by Stanley Thompson, a 100-slip marina, roughly 17,000 square feet of meeting and event space, five food-and-beverage outlets, a full-service spa, and about 685 acres of excess land with future development potential.

Approximately $17 million has been invested in capital improvements at the property between 2019 and 2025.

The Andlauer Group-led consortium includes Devcore, Groupe Nordik, and investors Edouard Wakim and Charles-Antoine Halle. During a news conference announcing that the consortium’s investment was unsuccessful, Devcore CEO Jean-Pierre Poulin criticized the Quebec government for failing to support the group adequately so that it remained under the ownership of investors based in the province.
