The federal government has invested $30 million through the Affordable Housing Fund in a new 70-townhomes project in southeast Edmonton.

HomeEd marked the formal groundbreaking of the project on Thursday with a plan to construct 70 townhomes on the former surplus school site at 909 Ogilvie Boulevard N.W.

The City of Edmonton is providing the approximately two-acre site, along with $1.25 million for servicing and $3.5 million toward construction. HomeEd, the city’s non-profit housing corporation, is contributing another $6.3 million.

Named Ogilvie Heights, the development will include 14 two-storey buildings containing five rental homes each. Construction is already underway, with completion targeted for December 2027.

Edmonton city council approved a development permit for the project in 2025. The city had been considering the former school property for affordable or mixed-market housing for several years before HomeEd acquired the site in 2023.

JEN COL Construction is serving as construction manager. The design team includes ACI Architecture and 5468796 Architecture.

The project represents total stated funding of approximately $586,000 per unit, excluding the value of the city-owned land.

HomeEd is Edmonton’s largest non-profit housing provider and operates more than 1,500 rental units across the city.
