Tweedie Becomes BlackRock’s Top Executive in Canada

U.S. investment giant BlackRock has appointed Katherine Tweedie as the new head of its Canadian business.

Tweedie assumed her duties recently after The Globe and Mail reported in May that BlackRock had appointed her to the position, citing an unidentified source.

“I am energized and inspired by a team that truly cares about its work and the clients we serve, a clear culture of partnership, and a relentless focus on helping Canadians build better financial futures,” said Tweedie in a LinkedIn post.

She noted that New York-based BlackRock has managed more than $500 million of assets in Canada while serving as part of the country’s “financial fabric” for three-plus decades.

Tweedie thanked her predecessor Marcia Moffat for a decade of “exceptional leadership” and contributions to BlackRock’s Canadian business, along with employees for their warm welcome and clients for their continued trust in the company.

Prior to joining BlackRock, Tweedie served as co-head of North American institutional investment at Ninety One in Toronto, previously known as Investec Asset Management. She has also held executive positions with the World Economic Forum as head of Africa, HSG (now Stonehage Fleming) and CIBC World Markets.
