Alberta Rent Growth Outpacing Rest of Canada

Alberta residential rent increases are climbing faster than those in other major Canadian markets, says a new report from Rentals.ca and Urbanation.

Edmonton’s average rental rate for a one-bedroom apartment surged 19.3% to $1,312, while the two-bedroom average rate climbed 15.7% to $1,639. Calgary rent increases slowed down but the one-bedroom rate increased 9.7% and the two-bedroom cost rose 8% to $2,073.

Vancouver and Toronto rents, which ranked first and second in the country, have much higher rents on average. However, in most cases, their rates declined year-over-year.

Nationally, the average rent for a one-bedroom suite jumped 14.7% to $1,920, while cost of a two-bedroom unit increased 11.3% to $2,293.
