ALMACO to Build Ship Prefab-Cabin Factory, Open Office in Quebec
ALMACO will open a new Quebec City office in September and build a ship modular-cabin factory in the province, the company announced.
Nevada-based AMALCO will make the moves through its Le Groupe AMALCO subsidiary. The efforts come after AMALCO secured a $105-million contract from Canadian shipbuilder Davie to outfit the Canadian Coast Guard’s Polar Max icebreaker.
AMALCO and Davie will collaborate on the construction of the ship’s 1,400-tonne superstructure, the top part of the vessel, at Davie’s shipyard in Lévis, Que., a Quebec City suburb. Davie is constructing the Polar Max under the federal government’s 15-year-old National Shipbuilding Strategy.
The new AMALCO facility will be the first of its kind in Canada and produce modular cabins for marine vessels, improving project efficiency, logistics, and quality control, said the company. The expansion supports ALMACO’s long-term presence in Quebec and is designed to generate new jobs by combining the expertise of the company’s European operations with Canadian professionals.
Founded in 1998, AMALCO launched operations in Quebec in 2022. The firm also has an office in Montreal, along with locations in Brazil, China, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Singapore, and the U.S.
