ATCO Closes $40M Purchase of Modular Building Manufacturer NRB

ATCO has completed its purchase of modular building manufacturer NRB for $40 million in cash.

Calgary-based ATCO bought NRB through its ATCO Structures subsidiary. Grimsby, Ont.-based NRB manufactures modular industrial, educational and residential buildings.

“The NRB acquisition, along with our recent purchase of Triple M Housing, the Canadian leader in single- family modular housing, has led to the dramatic growth and diversification of ATCO Structures and now positions our future operations to provide a full suite of commercial, industrial, education and all forms of residential modular products across Canada and competitively into the United States,” said Adam Beattie, president of ATCO Structures, in a news release.

NRB has about 400 employees and four specialized manufacturing facilities across Canada, with two in Ontario and one each in B.C. and Alberta. The firm was a subsidiary of Mississauga, Ont.-based Dexterra Group, whose interests include facilities management and operations.

In business for more than four decades, NRB ranks among Canada’s largest and longest operating modular-building providers and considers itself an industry innovator in multi-family residential products.

ATCO Structures has manufacturing facilities in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Chile and Australia. The company provides global turnkey permanent and temporary modular solutions for mobile offices, workforce housing, hotels, medical facilities, schools, multi- and single-family housing and other building types.
