Avison Young Expands into Newfoundland and Labrador

Avison Young has expanded into Newfoundland and Labrador with the opening a new affiliate office in St. John’s.

The move strengthens the firm’s presence in Atlantic Canada and brings its total number of offices across the country to 17.

The new St. John’s office extends the existing affiliation agreement between Avison Young and Halifax Managing Director Michael Brown, who oversees the company’s operations in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and now Newfoundland. Brandon Copeland will head the St. John’s office.

“Growing Avison Young’s footprint in Canada further solidifies our strong Canadian roots that date back nearly 50 years, so I’m pleased to bolster our presence in the Atlantic region as a key part of our strategic priorities,” said Mark Fieder, who is an Avison Young principal and the company’s president in Canada.

“Welcoming Brandon gives me great joy, and I am confident that we’ll achieve success together with Michael.”

The new office will focus on providing leadership and services across various specialties, including sales, lease administration, and tenant representation.

“Opening an Avison Young affiliate office in St. John’s has been an important part of my growth strategy for the Atlantic region for some time, and I’m delighted to take this step,” said Brown. “This marks an important day for commercial real estate in Newfoundland – and I could not be more pleased to have Brandon at the helm to deliver valuable, measurable results for our clients.

“I know he will successfully lead our St. John’s office with great skill.”

Copeland brings more than a decade of experience to the role. His career includes managing a $40-million land development portfolio, advising on project viability for urban planning and community projects, and overseeing some of St. John’s largest commercial properties.

Most recently, he managed the city’s largest class A office building and facilitated over $50 million in retail lease and office sales transactions between 2020 and 2024.

“I am thrilled to be a part of a company with a presence in the Atlantic, throughout Canada, and all over the world – demonstrating a commitment to strategic growth and opportunity,” said Copeland. “Avison Young will open the door to allow us to further enhance our service offering for clients in St. John’s.”
