Beacon, VoltaGrid Propose Data Centre at Spruce Lake

A pair of Canadian and American companies are proposing to develop a new data centre a Spruce Lake Industrial Park in Saint John, N.B.

CBC reported that Calgary-based Beacon AI Center and Texas-headquartered VoltaGrid are proposing to develop the project on a 120-hectare land parcel in conjunction with Spruce Lake’s expansion. City council unanimously pproved the expansion in July.

The companies plan to hold an open house on the project on Wednesday at Lorneville Community Centre.

Coun. Greg Norton told CBC that the two partners could invest upwards of $2 billion in the new facility while bringing needed tax revenue, jobs and other growth opportunities.

But Adam Wilkins, an area resident and one of the leaders of the Save Lorneville grptold CBC that the city is not honouring its pledge to attract light-and-medium industry that is clean and non-emitting.
