Blanchard Leaves CDPQ to Become Chief of Carney’s Staff
Prime Minister Mark Carney has hired a leading Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ) executive as his new chief of staff.
Marc-André Blanchard was appointed to his new position Sunday. He will assume his duties in July.
CDPQ announced Blanchard’s resignation from his role as an executive vice-president and head of both CDPQ Global and global sustainability.
Bouchard joined CDPQ in 2020 after spending four years as Canada’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations.
Charles Emond, the Quebec pension-fund manager’s president and CEO, said Bouchard “has definitely left his mark on CDPQ.”
Emond praised Blanchard for enabling CDPQ to become a globally recognized organization and making its sustainable investment goals “a hallmark of the institution.”
CDPQ did not name a replacement for Blanchard.
He is expected to play leading advisory and hiring roles, as Carney attempts to fulfill his campaign pledges.
Many of the promises are tied to commercial real estate development.
