Calgary Surpasses New-Housing Benchmarks

The City of Calgary has surpassed its new-housing benchmarks set through the federal Housing Accelerator Fund, the local government has announced.

Since receiving $228.5 million through HAF, construction has started on 44,276 new units.

The original goal was to start record 42,000 housing starts by fall 2026. That target was later increased to 42,667 new units.

“These are futures that are made possible,” Mayor Jyoti Gondek told reporters. “It’s a powerful reminder of what happens when different orders of government come together, where we collaborate — great things can happen — and that when we put funding in the hands of municipalities, we take action.”

HAF is a $4-billion investment program administered by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation.
