Canada Lands Company Plans 8,500 New Residential Units in Greater Montreal
Canada Lands Company has announced plans for three new major residential communities totalling 8,500 units in the Greater Montreal Area.
The redevelopment projects are intended to meet pressing demand for housing and drive development of inclusive well-integrated neighbourhoods, said CLC.
“Transforming three exceptional sites into mixed, sustainable, and accessible neighbourhoods will help build the Montreal of tomorrow,” said Pierre-Marc Mongeau, CLC’s vice-president of real estate for the Quebec and Atlantic regions as well as the Old Port of Montreal.
The largest development, Pointe-de-Longueil in Longueil, Que., will contain about 5,000 residential units and include 940,000 square feet of parks and green space, a pedestrian zone and what the company describes as a sustainable mobility hub.
Bassin Wellington, located within a short walk of downtown Montreal, is slated to include 2,800 new units of which 50% will be non-market housing. An arts and crafts district, green spaces and riverfront tourist area with recreational offerings, including a swimming area, will also be part of the mix.
Côte-de-Liesse, located on the grounds of the former National Film Board of Canada (NFB) headquarters in Laval, Que., is slated to include 700 new units, with 50% designated as non-market housing, near a future REM station. The project is designed to foster social diversity and accessibility. Canada Lands said the development will also preserve cultural heritage while creating vibrant family and community spaces.
CLC is a federal Crown corporation responsible for managing, redeveloping, and selling surplus government real estate across the country.
