Canada’s Starlight Launches U.K. Expansion in Liverpool

Canada’s Starlight Investments is launching its U.K. expansion with a waterfront multi-residential development in Liverpool.

London-based Maslow Capital has provided Toronto-based Starlight with a £45-million loan to support the Canadian company’s build-to-rent project on the Princes Dock.

The development is part of the £5-billion Liverpool Waters regeneration project. The Starlight building will contain 278 residential units, ranging from studios to three- bedroom apartments, according to a Maslow news release.

The Princes Dock project signifies a strategic expansion backed by a robust North American portfolio, said Daniel Drimmer, Starlight’s founder and CEO, in the news release. The Maslow loan accelerates the expansion, he added.

In May 2023, Starlight acquired build-to-rent communities comprising 922 units in Manchester, Liverpool and Ashford for £225M. Starlight is targeting build-to-rent projects in London commuter-belt markets and eight to 10 cities.

The company’s initial goal is to acquire £600M of assets representing a portfolio of 2,000 to 2,500 build-to-rent units.
