Canadian Companies Making Less Progress on Sustainability Projects

Most Canadian companies are not maintaining or advancing their sustainability goals and programs as well as they used to, according to a new report.

According to the 2025 Global Sustainable Barometer Study, nine in 10 Canadian companies view sustainability as a top strategic priority. However, the rate of firms meeting or exceeding their sustainability goals fell to 67% from 96% in 2024.

But Canadian firms are exceeding the global average of 65% among 1,286 companies surveyed. Most of the Canadian companies surveyed (85%) said they have not seen made any financial gains from their sustainability-related investments yet, but 73% are reducing operating costs and increasing efficiency. The study surveyed 60 Canadian companies.

The survey was commissioned by Microsoft and Kyndryl and conducted by Singapore-based Ecosystem.
