Centre Eaton Restaurant to Reopen
Ivanhoé Cambridge will reopen its ninth-floor restaurant atop Montreal’s Centre Eaton building on May 17.
The 120-seat Île de France restaurant underwent an extensive renovation as the building’s ninth floor, branded as Le 9e (short for Le Neuvième, the French equivalent of “ninth floor”) was revamped. Two multi-purpose spaces, which are known as Gold and Silver, were added.
The restaurant will be operated by a group of Montreal entrepreneurs that includes Jeff Baikowitz, Marco Gucciardi, Andy Nulman, Madeleine Kojakian and the 7 Doigts creative collective.
“The iconic art deco space, classified as a heritage property under Quebec’s Cultural Heritage Act in August 2000, has been painstakingly restored in a way that honours the spirit of the restaurant’s original layout while respecting its heritage value,” said Ivanhoé Cambridge in a news release.
The redeveloped ninth floor will also contain a venue, known as La Grande Salle, for events ranging from live shows, exhibitions and private functions.
Centre Eaton’s redevelopment will also feature a “lavishly appointed” cocktail bar and café on the ground floor of the building affiliated with Île de France.”This project is the logical continuation of our recent investments in Place Ville Marie, the Centre Eaton de Montréal and Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth Hotel, and is sure to bring yet more vitality to our downtown core,” said Annik Desmarteau, Ivanhoé Cambridge’s vice-president of Quebec offices, who oversaw the work.
Ivanhoé Cambridge partnered on the renovation with EVOQ Architecture, which has expertise in heritage-conservation projects, to perform the renovation work, which was authorized by the Ministry of Culture and Communications (MCC).
