City of Calgary Selling Midfield Heights Development Land Parcels
The City of Calgary is selling mixed-use and multi-family development land parcels in the Midfield Heights area.
The parcels previously comprised a 24-acre mobile home park that was vacated in 2018. The last residents were evicted following a legal battle, according to multiple published reports. The site is located at 16th Avenue N.E. and Moncton Road N.E., near the Renfrew area, which lies south of 16th.
Five of seven parcels are to be sold under the current offering. A commercial development site will be put up for sale this fall and the final parcel will be set aside until the next non-market land sale, Marcia Andreychuk, a city spokeswoman, told CBC.
According to a city website, developer submissions have been received and are being evaluated. The city has outlined a 40-week sale process.
“In future years, we’re looking forward to the vertical construction on Midfield Heights to bring up to 1,500 new homes to the area where in the past we had about 180 mobile homes,” she added.
“This will be a vibrant, mixed-use village of … new homes for Calgarians, much-needed homes.”
While the sale process unfolds, the city will furnish such amenities as roads, sidewalks, street lighting and two parks in the area, according to CBC.
“We expect the purchasers to build this according to the plan developed by the city. It’s a master-planned community with great access and connection to Renfrew across the street,” Andreychuk told CBC.
Buyers will develop the parcels according to their timelines rather than any city requirements.
“Once they purchase the site, they’ll be looking to build as quickly as they can and we’re looking to accommodate that and support whatever needs to be done for them to get in the ground as soon as possible,” Andreychuk told CBC.
