Coast Acquires, Rebrands Calgary’s Village Park Inn
Coast Hotels has acquired Calgary’s Best Western Village Park Inn and given it a new name.
The 160-room property is now known as the Coast Calgary University Area Hotel by APA.
The acquisition marks Coast’s second owned property in Calgary and expands the chain’s presence in Alberta. The popular hotel is located on Crowchild Trail near Banff Trail N.W., across the street from McMahon Stadium and close proximity to the University of Calgary, in northwest Calgary, across the street from McMahon Stadium, within short walking distance to the Banff Trail C-Train station, and near the University of Calgary.
The full-service hotel offers on-site dining, meeting and event space, and amenities designed for business, leisure, group and corporate travellers.
“We are pleased to continue expanding our presence in Calgary with the acquisition of this well-established hotel,” Takamasa Machiura, Coast’s president and CEO. “As our second owned property in the Calgary market, it complements our downtown location and strengthens our overall presence in the city.
“This hotel is located in a key area and aligns with our strategy of disciplined growth in important urban markets. We look forward to building on its strong foundation and welcoming guests to the Coast Hotels brand.”
The Coast Hotels brand with the “by APA” designation reflects Tokyo-based APA’s ownership of the Vancouver-headquartered chain. Coast said the property will gradually introduce APA signature features, including 55-inch 4K HD televisions, TOTO Washlets and additional in-room amenities based on the company’s Japanese hospitality approach.
Coast said the acquisition supports its strategy of expanding its portfolio across Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest. The chain has corporate-owned and franchised hotels across B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Alaska, California, Hawaii and Washington state, and describes itself as one of North America’s fastest-growing hotel brands.
APA’s hotel network spans about 930 hotel properties and 132,000 rooms in Japan, ranking as the country’s largest hotel group. It is the sole owner of Coast and owns the company’s seven hotels bearing “by APA” brand in Vancouver, Victoria, B.C.; Chilliwack, B.C.; Prince George, B.C.; Edmonton, Calgary and Seattle.
