Companies Exploring 3PL Warehousing Options to Minimize Cross-Border Shipments
Companies that sell goods directly to consumers (DTCs) are seeking third-party logistics (3PL) or warehousing options to reduce the need for cross-border shipments amid uncertainty surrounding tariffs and other pressures, says a new GoBolt report.
Of hundreds of retailers and DTCs surveyed, 19% are seeking such options.
The findings have implications for industrial real estate investors and developers as they contemplate where to construct logistics facilities.
The 2025 State of Logistics Report says that firms are rethinking their shipping options as they contend with rising logistics costs, shifting regulations, and increasing shopper expectations.
Another 34% of brands say they are still evaluating their options, while 23% are already shifting to domestic fulfillment strategies, amid growing uncertainty around tariffs and changes to U.S. Customs and Border Protection Section 321 regulations.
“Logistics is undergoing rapid transformation, particularly this year, as shifting regulations, evolving policies, and rising costs continue to disrupt the industry,” said Mark Ang, CEO and co-founder of GoBolt.
The report also outlines how companies are responding to a range of logistics challenges. Cost efficiency is the top factor influencing decisions around 3PL partnerships, with many brands re-evaluating their strategies to remain competitive. Sixty-five per cent of respondents believe diversifying their carrier networks will result in significant cost reductions, and 68% say they want their 3PL partners to prioritize that investment.
Brands are also doubling down on last-mile delivery improvements. According to the report, 77% of logistics professionals say performance tracking and cost analytics for last-mile delivery are critical capabilities they expect from 3PL providers.
Returns management remains another persistent hurdle. More than half (52%) of those surveyed cite it as a top value-added service they require from 3PLs to reduce costs and enhance shopper loyalty.
Toronto-based GoBolt is an end-to-end logistics provider, offering warehousing, pick and pack, shipping, and last-mile delivery services to mid-market and enterprise companies across Canada and the U.S.
