Developers Seek to Redevelop French Cultural Centre
Developers are proposing to redevelop Vancouver’s French cultural centre as a 21-storey mixed-use tower.
If all goes according to plan, the La Maison de la Francophonie, as the centre is known, will be expanded into a new 43,732-square-foot cultural and community centre area as part of the redevelopment.
Montreal-based developer Canderel and Vancouver-based Acton Ostry Architects have teamed up on the project through a joint-venture known as Candarel West 7th Limited Partnership. The JV draws its name from the property’s location at 1551-1581 W. 7th Avenue.
The partners have submitted a rezoning application to shift the site to a comprehensive development from a commercial classification. The project is slated to include 125 strata units, 66% of which would be two- and three-bedroom family homes.
The strata units would be situated in 19 storeys atop a two-storey podium, which would contain a mix of cultural, performance, administrative and retail spaces.
