Downtown Vancouver Data Centre to Undergo Large Expansion

The Spencer Building Carrier Hotel in downtown Vancouver will undergo a large expansion.

The data centre is located at 515 West Hastings Street in the the Harbour Centre complex. The facility’s operator goes by same Spencer Building Carrier Hotel name.

The expansion aims to address increasing demand for data-centre capacity across North America.

The project includes a 23,000-square-foot space expansion and addition of five megawatts of power to the existing infrastructure. Phase 1, offering 2.5 MW, is available for immediate buildout, while Phase 2, scheduled for 2027, will add another 2.5 MW.

“It’s a significant expansion that will empower businesses to scale efficiently in Vancouver and serve customers or business partners throughout the rest of Canada, the U.S., and [Asia-Pacific] regions,” said Scott Despot, director of business development and sales at Spencer Building Carrier Hotel.

“That’s why we’re thrilled to offer new, customizable data centre options within the Spencer Building.

Originally built in 1925-26, the Spencer Building is a redeveloped heritage property that initially housed a Spencer’s department store before being used for other purposes. The redeveloped structure now includes Simon Fraser University’s downtown Vancouver campus as well as government, business, retail, and restaurant tenancies.
