Eco-Guardian to Open Compostable Packaging Plant in Ontario
Eco-Guardian is set to open a compostable packaging manufacturing plant in Ontario.
Operations are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025. The exact location has not been disclosed.
The facility will produce high-quality, compostable, and recyclable paper cups and bowls, reducing Canada’s reliance on foreign imports and strengthening local supply chains, said the company.
“With increasing global trade uncertainties, businesses across Canada are looking for reliable, locally sourced solutions,” said Anil Abrol, president and CEO of Eco-Guardian. “This new facility will ensure that Canadian businesses have access to high-quality, eco-friendly, made-in-Canada packaging without risks from [U.S.] tariffs and supply-chain disruptions.”
The plant will have a production capacity of 2 billion cups annually and incorporate advanced sustainable production technologies. It will create local jobs and use FSC-certified paper, compostable linings, and bamboo paper to support environmental sustainability.
Beyond cups and bowls, the facility will produce custom-designed food packaging, such as burger boxes, fry boxes, and paper trays, catering to food service providers and retailers seeking eco-friendly alternatives.
Eco-Guardian is collaborating with CIBC to support its expansion.
“The CIBC team has shown full faith in Eco-Guardian’s vision, not only by investing in our manufacturing equipment but also by committing to collaborate in our future growth plans,” said Abrol.
Newmarket, Ont.-based Eco-Guardian specializes in sustainable food packaging for the food service and retail industries, helping businesses transition to greener solutions designed to reduce waste and carbon footprints.
