Edmonton’s Manulife Tower to Get New Name
One of downtown Edmonton’s most recognizable skyscrapers will soon bear a new name.
National Bank of Canada announced that the iconic Manulife Place will be renamed as National Bank Centre as part of the Montreal-based bank’s expansion across Alberta and Western Canada.
The rebranding accompanies the previously announced relocation of Canadian Western Bank’s (CWB) headquarters, which will move into the 36-storey tower located at 10180 101 Street.
“This move is a testament to Edmonton’s significance in our growth strategy, and our presence in Western Canada as we join forces with CWB,” said Laurent Ferreira, National Bank’s president and CEO.
In 2024, National Bank agreed to acquire Edmonton-based CWB for $XX.
“We are excited to contribute to the vitality of downtown Edmonton, drive economic growth and attract new business activity,” said Laurent Ferreira, president and CEO of National Bank.
National Bank will occupy 10 floors of the AA-class office tower, which has earned numerous sustainability and wellness certifications. The building will also display the bank’s logo and crown signage and feature a banking centre at street level.
The transition is expected to begin in 2025, following the completion of renovations to the building’s podium by Epic Investment Services, and the modernization of office spaces tailored to National Bank’s needs.
“This relocation for the bank and revitalization of the building is an exciting change for Edmonton’s downtown core,” said Craig Coleman, Epic’s managing partner and CEO. “We are proud to support National bank in strengthening its presence in Edmonton. Our focus remains on delivering a high-quality and sustainable workplace that aligns with the bank’s vision while contributing to the vibrancy of the city’s business district.”
The soon-to-be National Bank Centre, situated at the southwest corner of 102 Avenue and 101 Street, will offer tenants and visitors premium amenities, including a fitness centre, conference facilities, a rooftop terrace, and on-site retail. Its location also offers direct access to the Valley Line LRT and a diverse mix of dining and retail options nearby.
