eStruxture Developing $750M Data Centre Near Calgary

Tech infrastructure developer eStruxture is building a new $750-million data centre project north of Calgary.

Montreal-based eStruxture says the project is set to transform Alberta’s tech landscape. Plans call for the CAL-3 project to be Alberta’s largest and most advanced hyperscale facility once it commences operations in the second half of 2026.

With a 90-megawatt capacity and a design accommodating up to 300,000 square feet, CAL-3 aims to support artificial intelligence, cloud services, and high-density computing.

“CAL-3 represents a major leap forward, not just for eStruxture but for Alberta’s entire technology ecosystem,” said Todd Coleman, the company’s founder, president and CEO.

“This expansion strengthens our commitment to fuelling the province’s digital economy while providing scalable, sustainable infrastructure for our customers’ evolving needs. Calgary is a vital player in Canada’s tech future, and we’re proud to contribute to its growth with this groundbreaking facility.”

Designed as a Tier-3 facility, CAL-3 will connect seamlessly with eStruxture’s existing Calgary data centres, CAL-1 and CAL-2, providing extensive inter-site connectivity and reliability, said the company. The new data centre will focus on sustainability, employing energy-efficient power and cooling systems while offering scalability and customization options for emerging technologies.

By focusing on high-capacity computing and AI-driven technologies, CAL-3 is poised to become a significant asset in Alberta’s bid to lead in the global digital economy, according to eStruxture.

The project comes after eStruxture received a $1.8-billion investment from Fengate Asset Management in the summer of 2024 to expand the company’s data centres across Canada.

The investment set a record for investment in the Canadian data centre sector, according to eStruxture and Fengate.

The data centre provider is the largest in Canada with locations in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver.

With the deal, Fengate significantly increased its stake in eStruxture. The investment will enable the expansion of Montreal-based eStruxture’s 15 state-of-the-art facilities across the country to meet demand for data-centre capacity.
