Fairmont Winnipeg to Close for Renovations
The Fairmont Winnipeg will close to guests on July 1 as it undergoes extensive renovations, with plans to reopen in spring 2027.
The popular downtown hotel is entering the final phase of a major transformation following its reacquisition in 2024 by James Richardson & Sons, Limited, which aims to restore the property as a top luxury destination.
The upcoming work will include a complete remodelling of all 340 guest rooms, as well as upgrades to the Fairmont Gold lounge and the hotel’s top-floor indoor pool, gym and sauna.
“My grandfather’s generation built this hotel, then called the Winnipeg Inn, in 1970, and it has been a mainstay of the downtown skyline for 56 years,” said Thor Richardson, president of James Richardson & Sons in a statement distributed to multiple media outlets. “When we reacquired the property, we set out to build a hotel that Winnipeggers will be proud of. Our goal is to be world-class.
“Our family is deeply committed to Winnipeg, and we are proud to be making this significant investment at Portage and Main.”
Loren Remillard, president and CEO of The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce has stated that the renovation project will help elevate the city’s profile and make the city “a must-visit destination.”
